Big Tree Lodge combines colonial charm with the comforts of home. Our large colonial villa (formerly known as Redwood Lodge) and one time vicarage still features most of the original timber paneling and furniture. It offers free high-speed Wi-Fi (Fair use policy applies), towels, washing machine and tea&coffee. Modern and spacious bathrooms with separate toilets and a comfy communal living room. Our fully-equipped kitchen is directly connected to the living area.

In the lodge there are six lockable bedrooms: twins, double, double plus single bunk, four and five bed shares. Our beds have warm duvets and mink blankets with electric blankets in the private rooms. Linen supplied.

Just two streets from the center of Methven Mt Hutt Village where there are shops, bars, pubs and even a picture theater.The golf course is just down the road and the Shuttle buses for Mt Hutt Ski field stop at the gate but must be booked first.

Big Tree Lodge Methven is located at 25 South Belt, two streets from the town centre of Methven/Mt Hutt Village.
From Christchurch head south towards Timaru on State Highway 1. Look for the Big Fish on the right just over the Rakaia River Bridge and turn right before the Mobil petrol station. At the roundabout turn left towards Mayfield down 'Thompsons Track' (about 18kms) then follow the signs for Methven (about another 18kms). At the main intersection in Methven with the Blue Pub on your right, turn left down the main street (SH77) and South Belt is the second street on the right. This is the quickest route.
From Queenstown and the inland lakes: The short route for those in a hurry: from SH8 in Fairlie, turn left at the sign to Geraldine and follow SH 72 (the Inland Scenic Route) until Mayfield then turn right at the major intersection just out of Mayfield where you then turn almost immediately left (signpost says Rakaia). Keep on this road till you come to a T-intersection, and then turn left as the sign post says to Methven. When you come to the 50km sign South Belt is the next left go down to no.25 on the left.
For those not in a hurry take the scenic route along SH72, turn right down Pudding Hill Road towards Methven turn right down Hobbs Road and go round the back of the Golf Club, further down the road this becomes South Belt. After Wayne place we are on the right down the driveway to the right.

I understand there is a NO SMOKING policy for all inside areas. All smoking must take place outside. An undercover area is provided for this purpose on rainy days. A fee may be charged for cleaning any rooms that have been smoked in which is $150.00 and will be charged to the person who made the booking. I accept personal liability for the payment of all costs associated with the above accommodation. I give authorization to debit my credit card for any unpaid charges, damages, loss of property or costs involved with cleaning smoke affected rooms or rooms and beds soiled with human matter or any fluids. Any unacceptable behavior or continuous noise levels may result in guests being asked to leave the premises without refund. Note: WiFi is free however a fair use policy applies.
Payment Policy
FULL PAYMENT is required at the time of booking. Payment may be made by bank transfer (NZ banks only) to our ANZ account 01-0885-0064609-00. Please state booking reference number and name for identification of your payment. Group bookings are the responsibility of the person named on the booking. The person named on the booking must be 18 years old or over
Cancellation Policy
Due to our small size and the seasonal nature of our accommodation cancellations affect us significantly, therefore we strictly impose our cancellation policy which is:-
SUMMER SEASON: All bookings cancelled 7 days or more prior to the stay date will be refunded less one night's cost. No refund will be given for cancellations within 7 days of the stay date.
If you do not arrive for your booking the total fee will be forfeit.
WINTER SEASON: All bookings cancelled 14 days or more prior to the stay date will be refunded less one night's cost.
No refund will be given for cancellations within 14 days of the stay date or if guests fail to show up.
GENERAL: Bookings cannot be amended after your stay has commenced. If we manage to re-sell the beds of a cancellation we will credit you the amount received.
LONG TERM STAYS: Payment of 2 weeks in advance is required to be maintained. As your rate is determined by the length of your stay any reduction of the agreed term may result in higher weekly rate for the original stay period.
Child Policy
Children welcome but must be under adult supervision at all times. We do not provide cots.
